I am now posting to this address: www.bikingintaiwan.com. It'll take some time to get some kind of design up and going, because I have also changed software from MovableType to WordPress, but I'll get there in the end. The old blog at bikingintaiwan.theforgetful.com (yes, it's long. Now you know why I've changed) has a lot of links that I haven't transplanted to this blog yet.

  • Hello,
We’re an association based in France. Every month on our web site we publish(ed) short articles about China or Taiwan.
Next month we’re writing about cycling in Taiwan. We ‘ve discovered your blog and would like to know if we could “copy” some of your pictures for our article ? We’ll mention your name and your blog.
Please let us know if you agree with our idea.
If you know a website with a map of the bike paths of Taiwan it would be very usefull.
    Thanks a lot,
    Best regards,
    Isabelle

Hi Isabelle, I sent you an e-mail.

  • Great website! You have gotten me more and more interested in biking in Taiwan. I couldn’t find your email, so I posted here.

I was wondering if you could help me incorporate cycling into my Taiwan vacation. I am going to be there from January 5-17, and I am an avid road and mountain biker. If you could provide any information on bike rentals, routes, and group rides, I’d greatly appreciate it. Of course, I am planning on bring my shoes, pedals, and other gear. If you are planning any awesome rides during that period that I could join, I would love it. What better way to see a new country than to tour it a bit by bike? Thanks in advance for your input. My email is mmoses1127@gmail.com

    Cheers,

Thanks, Mike. Still working on the design, as you can see. The e-mail will be added together with a lot of other stuff. I’m sending you an e.

I did my road bike tour in Taiwan this winter, and LOVED it. Never have I biked in such a bike-friendly country. I picked up a Giant touring bike with panniers in Hualien, rode up Tairoko to Wuling pass, turned back around to bomb down to the coast (insane!), then turned south and rode to Taitung. Sweet roads, friendly drivers, supportive citizens! A tribal dude even invited me to have and dinner and sleep in his home in rural eastern Taiwan. I’m going back to do another tour, this time starting from Taichung, in mid-August. Company welcome!

Hey Mie – I am planning a short biking trip in Taiwan at the end of September, and would really like to hear more about your experience. Would you be willing to exchange emails and more information?

  • tbv

That sounds really cool. Glad to see that you mentioned friendly drivers. That’s always been my experience outside of Taipei but a lot of people complain. Haven’t actually been up to Wuling on the bike yet, but flying down the Southern or Northern cross island highways is also something special. Anyone who hasn’t gone downhill for 20-30-40k just has to come to Taiwan to try it. It’s just amazing.

Hi – I am thinking of extending a layover in Taiwan at the end of September, and I have really enjoyed reading your posts about bike rides around the Taipei area. Would you have an recommendations on feasible routes for a 2 day bike (possibly + train) trip that would hit the better roads for biking? Please let me know if you’d be willing to email with more info!
